Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is an acute care partner
in the continuum of care. Our goal is to provide world-class
acute care for our patients so that when they leave our care
to move through their journey to recovery, the next level
of workers will be enabled to complete the necessary treatment.
The continuum of care starts at the primary level with healthcare
workers in many disciplines and professional capacities assisting
patients with care before their time with us.
Paramedics in Northwestern Ontario, for example, are trained and certified in advanced life support skills; provided clinical education;
authorized to perform delegated medical acts; and provided 24-7 on-line medical control (patching to physicians) through the NW Region
Base Hospital Program which is supported by a team of physicians and health care professionals who come from our Emergency Department.
Paramedics are essential to the healthcare continuum as they often accompany patients by land and air ambulance. Walk-in clinics, nursing
stations, rehabilitation facilities, and long and short term care enterprises also assist in providing care. Consistently, new opportunities
for partnering with healthcare providers are being found.
