Timely diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer was enhanced through $350,000 in grants from the Health Sciences Foundation. A new digital mammography unit purchased for the Linda Buchan Centre is capable of exact and accurate placement of the needle for the tissue sample for breast biopsy.
At the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, our goal is to provide Patient and Family Centred Care to our patients built on values of quality, dignity, respect, accountability, and commitment. The Health Sciences Centre uses an “interprofessional” model of care, meaning that all health professionals work together in a team environment to develop and provide the best treatment programs, ultimately improving patient care.
Many of our health professionals specialize in particular areas of care, in some cases requiring extra coursework and testing. For example, we have cardiovascular nurses who have taken special certification, physiotherapists dedicated to orthopaedics, and psychologists working exclusively with cancer patients and their families. This approach supports our philosophy of dedicated, deliberate, and compassionate caring. All health professionals at the Health Sciences Centre are committed to Patient and Family Centred Care.
Below is a list of the health professionals working at the Health Sciences Centre. Each link takes you to a PDF file describing the “Career Profile” to give you a better understanding of each particular health professional’s role in your care.
